Nelly was so tired from the trip to Sharon’s place, that she couldn’t wait to jump into the bed and have a good sleep. She didn’t even have the strength to change her clothes to something comfy. She just laid down on the bed and slept off.

Sharon decided to check up on her after noticing she didn’t come out of her room.
‘Would you like to eat something, Sharon asked as she opened the door and noticed, Nelly fast asleep.
She could imagine how tired she was especially as she had to sit close to a passenger that loves talking.
Sharon smiled and closed the door, she couldn’t help herself in reminiscing the good old days in the university.
Nelly has always been like a sister to her, they both shared the good and bad times. She really felt bad leaving her behind after relocating to the states. Having her here to spend three weeks with her and her family is going to be a holiday she will never forget in a hurry.
She really needs for them to catch up and also to know about her love life and how she has been holding on after the death of her parents in a fatal car accident. She promised herself that nelly was going to enjoy the time she has to stay with her.

xxxxxxxxx

Rise and shine sleepy head, Sharon said as she made to open the curtains in the guest room, while her kids were already jumping on the bed trying to get Nelly to wake up.
“Oh my goodness!!! Sharon, these kids are all grown up!!!
“Can’t believe I saw them two years ago when they were just cute twins and now they are so big and gorgeous’.
“Now I have a big reason to be up, cos we sure gonna play real hard and catch up lost time”.

She made her way to the restroom to freshen up while Sharon left the room with the kids to get something ready for Nelly to eat.
Nelly joined Sharon as she made her lunch, wow didn’t know time has gone so far, guess I was extremely tired.
‘Ya can imagine and is to be expected because you will need some days to adjust to the time change.”
‘So sit down while I dish your favorite food.
“Did you say my favorite? Asked Nelly, as she was surprised Sharon still remembers her favorite meal.
“Of course? No one can take edikang ikong soup and pounded yam from you.
“I remember when you had to cry in the hostel because our pot of edikang ikong soup got stolen.
“Wow, you still remembered that? Nelly joined Sharon in laughing as they both reminisce that memory. And to think it was Aisha that stole it after claiming she doesn’t like food from the south.

“Those were good old days, so what about Ken, is he around?
“No, he’s not. His job takes him out of Houston most times for like 4-5months and he actually left last month. He was really sad he won’t be around to see you before you leave but promised to give you a call later in the day because he called earlier on and I told him you were still asleep”.

“And the kids? Can’t hear their voices anymore’. They went to the park with their nanny. replied Sharon. Now let’s talk about Nigeria, and how has life been treating you. I know you do keep me informed but hearing it from you while looking at you is what I need now.”
That got a laugh from Nelly because she knows where Sharon is coming from. They have been very close and can’t really hide stuff from each other.

“Well, my job is still the same old job you knew of, same salary and is really becoming boring for me. Have been able to move ahead following my folk’s death and you know my relatives made life really difficult which is due to the fact that my dad never prepared for an early demise or that he would have to die the same time with my mom and leave me alone in the world.

‘As you know, dad and mom were both government workers and I have been able to settle their gratuities and don’t intend touching it till I feel is necessary. So am still fighting on my own to make a name for myself. And as per relationship, it’s still the same old story. I get into a relationship and when I think all is going well, it just stops and I can’t explain so decided to just be selfish with myself and just enjoy life because am really exhausted. My plan from now is to live life to the fullest, travel when necessary and try to put all darkness behind me”.

Sharon could feel the pain, hurt and disappointment emanating from her friend while she talks about how life has been treating her. She wished she had been there during her trying times but distance has always been a major barrier. She prays this trip will help them bond more and also help Nelly to forget her pain.

“Daddddyyyyyyy, I thought you won’t be coming back today because Grandma said your flight was delayed. So what happened?
“Well, we thought it was gonna be delayed, James told his four-year-old daughter as he made to go into the living room with his daughter in his arms”.
“Tamara Rodriguez, how many times have I warned you not to answer the door? Asked James mom, as she tried to admonish her granddaughter while trying to hide the joy of seeing her son.
“But Nana, is my dad? replied Tamara.
“Ya honey, I know is your dad, but we have to be careful when opening doors for people”.
“Okay, Nana, it won’t happen again”.
“Alright sweetie, why don’t you get the gift you prepared for your dad?
“Oh, that is true daddy, I made a present for you, let me go and get it for you”.
“Really, asked James as he looked lovingly at his daughter who has always been a source of happiness for him since he took custody of her following her mom’s death”.

“Well son, how was work? James mother asked.
“It was refreshing and exciting, James replied as he recalled his meeting with Nelly and the conversation they had. The thought of it made him smile.
“Wow, it really must have been exciting, because you are smiling’.
“Do you mind sharing the excitement with me?
That got a laugh from James. “Not yet mom, but very soon.
“Now I have to rest and then get Tammy home, I know you must be stressed from babysitting’.
“Not at all, I love having Tammy here, always make me feel young again’.

One year Later

Someone is really looking sexy, Mikayla’s mum said as she walked up to her daughter to admire her in her beautiful red gown that did justice to her hour glass figure.

Hmm mummy you are trying to make an old lady blush”, replied Mikayla to her mum.

‘Blush indeed! Am really happy how you have risen above all the challenges you encountered, you are the true daughter of your father, and am very sure he would have been proud of how far you have achieved under two years’. Her mum said with tears in glistening her eyes.

‘Anyway I don’t want you to be late for the dinner you have with Emeka. That young man is really a matured fellow and I thank God for bringing him to your life’.

‘Have to confessed that the first time I accepted to date him after one month of pestering on his part, I was always expecting him to change and be like Seun, but I realize is not fair to compare him to my ex husband because in all ramifications, Seun doesn’t measure up to Emeka and with that realization I made up mind to enjoy being with him and lets see what the future have for both of us’.

‘So if he asked you to marry him, will you?’ Mikayla’s mum asked and praying within herself that her daughter gives a positive answer because she always wonder if she has given up on marriage.

‘Yea sure I will but that will come if he wants it’. Replied Mikayla.

Xxxxxxxx

‘Are you okay? You seemed to be far away ?asked Mikey to Emeka whom she has been dating for a year’.

‘Am okay love, just wondering why my PA hasn’t sent the mail I asked her to’, replied Emeka who couldn’t help to conceal the worried look on his face.

He thought he had it all planned, has been planning the perfect proposal from the day Mikayla agreed to have him as more than a friend. He had always known she is right for him and can’t wait to have her as his wife but first he need to be able to carry out this proposal mission without sending out a signal.

His sister, Nkechi , his mum and Mikayla’s mum and Mikayla’s friend Nathalie has assured him everything was under control but why are they 5mins behind time? He thought of using the rest room but that would make it the sixth time he is excusing himself for that and that might make Mikayla suspicious.

Still in his thought, he didn’t noticed when the artiste he had called to serenade Mikayla with songs, stepped in and was singing their favorite love song.

‘Wow, honey, That is our song’, Mikayla said with smile and Emeka knew the time has come for the moment he has been waiting for. They were the only one in the private lounge, as he had already booked the place in advance. He asked for a dance from Mikayla and she gladly accepted because she was dying to be in his arms.

They walked to the center of the lounge, dancing to the cool blues, and Emeka started letting her know how incomplete his life was till she came into the picture, how she had made life more beautiful and having her always keeps him going and promised never to hurt her or make her cry. It wasn’t unusual for Emeka to say all he was saying because he always let her know how special she was to him. She replied by letting him know he had made her to believe in love again after what she went through and thanked him for being patient with her and able to break down the walls she erected around her heart.

She was so lost in what she was saying with her eyes closed, that she didn’t notice when Emeka got down on one knee holding an opened jewelry box that has a beautiful diamond ring. She came to reality when the music stopped and wondering why, had to open her eyes only to behold the love of her life on a bended knee, smiling sheepishly, she couldn’t hear what he was saying and just kept muttering yes!yes!!,yes!!!.

The next sounds she heard as Emeka slipped the ring onto her finger, was screams of congratulations. She looked around and saw people that has made her life meaningful the past 2 years, Her mom, Nathalie, Nkechi and Nkechi’s mom. Mikayla couldn’t hold back the tears; Emeka had to wrap his arms around her for a warm embrace and kept planting kisses on her teary face.

Xxxxxxx

‘Mikey love, I have gist for you’, Nathalie said as she got into Mikayla’s house. Really, what could have made you so excited, replied Mikayla.

‘Okay, guess who i saw today’? Nathalie asked as she made herself comfortable in the sitting room.

‘Hmm you should know I’m not good at the guessing game’. Replied Mikey who wasn’t ready to play any guessing game as she was so tired from the previous day outing she had with Emeka.

‘Alright that’s fine, I actually saw Seun this morning. He obviously came to do some shopping at the mall and spotted me at the cashier point. I didn’t notice his presence till he tapped me on the shoulder’. Seriously!!! Cut in Mikayla.

‘Yes, answered Nat and it actually seemed like he regretted the action, probably expecting a cold shoulder but I rather flashed him one of my wonderful smiles and asked how he was doing and his family. You needed to see how uncomfortable he was and then he asked how you were faring and I told him you were doing great’.

That got a laugh from Mikayla because she could actually picture Nat in her element and knew she would have really made Seun felt uncomfortable.

‘Gosh Mikey, I really wondered what you saw in that guy? Obviously you were blinded by love. Seun is definitely not aging with grace, he looked liked he has so much responsibilities on his shoulder, and needs someone to pamper him’.

‘Really!!! replied Mikey, well he has his wife, his kids and of course his over bearing mother to help ease of the stress, or do you want to help him out’? Mikey asked jokingly.

Xxxxxxxxx

‘Wow Dayo is been a long time we last saw, what has been happening to you’? Asked Seun to his friend from his University days as he met Dayo in the lounge they have agreed to meet.

‘Well have been good and you’? Replied Dayo

‘Well it hasn’t been easy with the country’s present economy problems but we are still striving’, answered Seun.

‘Have you ordered anything to drink? Seun asked while trying to get the attention of the waiters in the lounge.

‘Not at all, was going through my mail while waiting for you to come. So what’s up, why do you want to see me?

‘Hmm I really think we would need a bottle of wine while I talked about the reason for wanting to see you’.

That got Dayo really confused and worried as well, Seun had always being confident about life, but the Seun he is seeing now looks so sad and worried. He was able to asked him what was wrong, before the waiter came to take their order.

Dayo waited for the young waiter to be through before imploring Seun to explain what is really going on with him.

‘So what exactly is the problem? Because to be frank, you don’t look your cheerful self?

‘My brother, I have sunk so deep into the hole that I don’t even know how to get out. My business is fine but not so fine with the present economic challenges in the country. My major problem is my folks, how to send them back to the village or anywhere but not my house. My mum seems to have a hold on my family and I am beginning to get frustrated. My mum wants to rule my house, and my wife clearly ain’t ready for that. This has led to frequent quarrels and my mum is trying to instigate I send her away’.

‘My wife is trying to prevent what happened between I and Mikayla. And truthfully I have to say that my mum is the architect of the love lost between Mikayla and I’.

‘Hmm, I did warn you, replied Dayo. I tried to make you realize that your mum was been manipulative and too involve in your home, but you wouldn’t listen and the fact that you are just learning of your mum’s motive is baffling. Sincerely if you want to preserve your marriage and want to bring up your kids under the love of their parents then you have to send your folks far away from your matrimonial home before you develop high blood pressure.

Your wife clearly knows your mother so well and don’t want any issues in her marriage, she ain’t as peaceful as your wife and being a Yoruba woman, she knows how the Yoruba mothers reason. If you really love the mother of your kids then is a sacrifice you need to make.

‘Can’t really say I love Bisi like I loved Mikey, but we just fell out of love. What I have for Bisi isn’t love. I see us more like mutual partners that want to care for each other. Fine we were dating while I was still married and after the car accident I had when Mikey was pregnant with Princess, she took care of me alongside my mum in my family house because I couldn’t bear seeing Mikey pregnant and Mikey never knew I had the accident. Sometimes I wonder what could have really happened between I and Mikayla’.

Seun I can’t believe you allowed the judge to rule in Mikayla’s favor? How can you agree to a settlement of 10million naira in this period of hard times? You better call the bank to put a stop to that transaction. Queried his mother.

‘Iya I can’t do it. Seun shouted at his mom on their way home from the court. Didn’t you hear all the allegations against me and wasn’t it true? Didn’t you see the witnesses that attest to the fact I mistreated Mikayla? Even the security guard of our former apartment was there. I wasn’t given enough time to prepare for the case neither was the judge ready to adjourn the case just because he felt Mikayla has suffered much and needs to let go of my wicked memories.
As am speaking to you, I have just got an alert that my account has been debited. She obviously feels I will be manipulated by you which you are clearly trying to do now.

‘If the money will clear my name and conscience fine but I doubt it will because she looked at me with so much disgust’. Seun kept lamenting to his mom. ‘You are right if looks can kill; Mikayla’s look would have sent me 6 ft under. Who could have thought she will be so bold to speak out like she did today and her mom acted like she was ready to pounce on me. Well, life goes on.

One Year Later

‘Good Afternoon, please I would like to see your boss if she is around’.
‘Yes, she is but do you have any appointment? Asked the receptionist
‘No, not really, it actually came as an impromptu visit and couldn’t reach her on the phone. Please just tell her Nkechi wants to see her’.
‘Okay just make yourself comfortable at the visitor’s section while I get across to her via the intercom’.
‘Okay thanks’, replied Nkechi as she made herself comfortable in the tastefully decorated visitor’s lounge.

Nkechi was really impressed with the office. This is the first time she was coming to Mikayla’s office after the remarkable opening four months ago. She was so proud of all her client turned friend has achieved after a year of her divorce. She has really proven that diligence and determination are all a person needs to forge ahead and make something out of an ugly situation.
She was glad she was an instrument to the joy Mikey is experiencing now. She likes her so much and there is never a dull moment hanging out with her whenever the chance arises.

‘Hello Nkay, how you doing? Mikayla greeted Nkechi as she made to greet her with a friendly hug.
‘Have been good and you? Nkay replied
‘Well same here though have had a busy schedule because am more or less booked for the month’.
‘Waow. That means business is booming’, exclaimed an excited Nkechi
‘Well, you can say again, God has indeed been faithful’. So what brings you here?
‘Well, I have a business proposal for you but this one you are booked, don’t know if I can be accommodated’.
‘Of course, you can be? Why don’t we go to my office and discuss the proposal?

They made their way to Mikayla’s office and Nkechi couldn’t hide her admiration when she saw the way her office was designed.
‘Oh my, Mikey, you did a good job in this place. I thought I had seen it all downstairs but up here in your office just blew me away.
Lol, well with the referral from you to the interior decoration company that did yours, I have to also say thank you. The decorator sure knows her job pretty well and I was so impressed when she was done with everything irrespective of the high sum. It clearly was worth it.
Well before I leave, I will like to take a detour if you don’t mind.

No problem about that, so what business proposal do you have for me?
Well, my mom’s birthday is coming up and is actually a surprise affair to an extent but just a family parole. We contacted a caterer to give us Nigerian delicacies but we want you to also cater for the party through your delicious finger licking food and likewise a mini intercontinental dish.
I got hooked on the dish you prepared for Nat’s anniversary party. So please can I be accommodated?
Like I told you earlier though we are booked, but I can’t turn you down on this. Just give me the necessary details and we will start from there and I will also like to know the particular type of intercontinental dish you want because we recently updated our menu.

Xxxxxxxx
My little sister, Emeka said, as he walked into his sister posh office.
How are you big brother, what brings you to my office? Inquired Nkechi.
Well, I came to know how you doing, you know we hardly see except for social media and maybe few calls. And besides the last time we saw, you were so busy at mom’s party.
Nkechi knew her brother was right. The party turned out to be big even though they tried to make it a small gathering. The food and drinks were enough for guests and Mikey did justice with her dishes.

‘Well, that is so true. I had to make sure everything went well in the party and you know I did a damn good job of it’.
‘Ya, you are right, and in fact, I came to see you as regards that. I need the contact of the caterer but not the one that catered for the main dish. The one that handled the intercontinental dish because I really enjoyed it and needs her service for something coming up’.
‘Oh really! Well, I can give you her details anyway and can assure you she is very good at her job but what exactly is coming up? Asked Nkechi.
‘Nothing serious, our strategic meeting is coming up in two months time and her dish will do the staff well after the usual brainstorming session in the meeting’.
‘Okay, let me get her complimentary card. She gave me some in case I have people interested in her services’.

Emeka decided to find about more details about Mikayla. ‘So what exactly do you know about her anyway, because I really didn’t know you guys are that close?
‘Well, you are right in saying you didn’t know because we just became friends of recent and I got to know her through Nat my friend from church. Hmm, big bros, are you sure you are inquiring about her services or you are interested in her? Replied Nkechi
That got a deep laugh from her brother whom she loves so much. Well, she seems like a nice person even though we haven’t met, but thanks for the information, though.

Xxxxxxxxxx
‘Good afternoon, I would like to meet your MD’. Emeka flashed his sexy smile that gets ladies swooning around him as he greeted the receptionist at Mikayla’s office.
‘Do you have an appointment’? Asked the receptionist.
No, I don’t but I got a referral from her very good friend who assured me that I can be attended to if I come in early, replied Emeka as he keeps smiling hoping that it would have an effect on her and it sure did as he was referred to the waiting lounge.
While at the lounge, he took his time to admire his surrounding and have to confess that Mikayla has an exotic taste. Seems everything about her is nice. Still deep in thought, he didn’t know when Mikayla stepped into the lounge to greet him.

‘Good morning sir’? When there was no response, Mikey took a step further to tap him slightly on his shoulder and that brought him back to his present surrounding.
‘Oh am so sorry, was lost in thought, Emeka said while he stood up to greet Mikey.
Is ok, I guess you got carried away by the beautiful décor, it usually has similar effects on my clients, Mikey said to ease him of his embarrassment.
‘Well, you can have your seat while you tell me how I can be of help to you’. Thank you, replied Emeka. Having tasted your delicacies at an event of recent, I wanted to know if you can cater for a mini-event coming up soon.
‘Wow, so which event will that be’? Inquired Mikey, as she tried to remember the event she catered for recently.
‘That will be for Chief Obi’s wife birthday party’. Said Emeka.
Oh that, am not sure I saw you there, although I wouldn’t have remembered you because I was extremely busy as I wanted the best for that event.
Really why? Asked Emeka. Mikayla replied by saying, ‘There are some people you meet in life that you will never know how much they will mean to you. Chief Obi’s daughter, Nkechi has really helped me in so many ways and giving my profound best in that party was something I wanted and people testifying from that event means I really did well even though I still owe her a lot.

Wow, that is interesting. Anyway, Chief Obi is my dad which makes Nkechi my kid sister. That statement got a surprised look on Mikey as she tried to search for any resemblance between Emeka and Nkay.

Six Months Later!!!!
“Hello Nkay, is Mikey, hope you are well? I just want to inform you that you can proceed in serving my husband the divorce papers as I have successfully moved into another apartment with my mom’. Mikey said across the phone to Nkechi.

‘Okay that is great, in that case I will need you to provide the office address of your hubby and will also advise that you changed your line till you guys have your first meeting at the court’. Replied Nkechi.

‘Oh really, well am actually using another line anyway and that was because is one of my resolutions for a new beginning, so he can’t reach me, but thanks all the same’. Mikey thanked her before dropping the call. Her mom came to meet her while she was still brooding over the conversation she had with Nkechi.

‘Are you okay? You seem lost’. Her mom asked her as she joined her on the settee in their sparse living room. ‘Well I just spoke with the lawyer Nathalie introduced me to and gave her the go ahead to serve the divorce papers to Seun’.

‘Well, that is a good development and is a start to something good. Right now what I want you to think about is how you intend taking care of yourself. Is high time you write out your resume to start looking for jobs or think about a business you can do, I can support you with initial capital for that. I don’t want you to object to it because am your mother and is my responsibility to see you happy’.
‘Really appreciate mom but am certainly not thinking of looking for a paid employment due to my age, I have decided to go into business and Nathalie has actually helped in convincing her company to allow me to take charge of the light refreshments for their company’s annual meeting coming up next month’.

‘You mean you are a caterer? Asked her mom. Mikayla nodded in affirmation. ‘Wow, Kay my dear you are really full of surprises. I know you to be a good cook but I never knew you have the passion for it that you want to turn it into a business venture’.
‘Hahaha mummy!!! When life throws you lemons, you have to use the lemons to prepare refreshing lemonade drink. When my life was looking boring before the birth of Princess, I used the internet to while away time and picked interest on food, and soon discovered a passion for mouthwatering delicacies especially finger licking foods and did a lot of practices from what I learned online. You know I was the one that covered the catering aspect of princess’s 4th-year birthday party and in fact, that was how Nat knew I was good at it, thus helping me to get the contract’.

‘So you mean her company trusted her word of mouth? That is really great my dear’. ‘No, not really, the head of logistics in her company asked that I prepare some of my delicacies for the office and I did enough as Nat works at the head office. They were really impressed with the food and gave me the contract right there. Isn’t God wonderful?’

Two Weeks Later

“Adamu!!!Adamu!!!Adamuuuuu…”Where has the security guard gone to? Seun muttered to himself as he tries to place a call across to his second wife, and just immediately Adamu his security guard opened the gate.
‘Where the hell were you when I was shouting your name for you to open the gate?’
‘Ah Oga abeg no vex am for me..I be go put on the pumping machine as dem bring light.’
‘My friend, open the gate properly so I can drive in’.
Seun knew he was been hard on his security guard but the letter he got this afternoon from the court is really disturbing him. He alighted from his car and made way to the entrance of his duplex he shares with his second wife. He is always proud entering his house but today was so disturbing that he felt so down. He immediately decided to check on his folks at the 2 bedroom apartment that was originally his boys quarter but his folks and two kid sisters now presently stays there.

He knocked gently on the door and his mom answered and opened the door after announcing his presence. ‘Ahhhh Oko mi you don’t look happy, is all well with you? Or did your wife offend you?
No, Iya she didn’t, in fact, I haven’t entered the house. What is bothering me is my first wife Mikayla, She is seeking for divorce from me and she didn’t even tell me rather I got serve the papers from the court at Ikoyi and am to report to the court in two days time or face the penalty.

‘Hmm, so she has the gut to do that? Well is good riddance to bad rubbish. Is that why you are like this? After all, you are married to Bose who has given you two beautiful kids. Divorce her and let her go.
‘Iya you don’t understand, something isn’t right. Someone must be backing her for her to have been so bold to ask for a divorce, I thought her mom won’t have approved her divorce. Could it be that she had a lover all these while and I didn’t know?’

‘Abomination!!!! Retorted his mom; She can’t have been doing that when you guys are still married. That means she was harboring men in your matrimonial home. Have you called her or go to meet her at home?
‘Have called severally ever since I got the message but her line isn’t connecting and also she has vacated the house without telling me about it. She sent the keys through the court also’.
That got a shock from his mom because they have never thought Mikayla to be so bold in handling things and she is beginning to think that her son is right about someone supporting Mikayla.

Seun got tired and left for the main house to meet his second wife and his kids. He kept thinking of the court appointment he has with Mikayla. He knows damn right that he had never treated her well but that was because his family never wanted her from the beginning and he thought all will be fine with time but it didn’t, instead it became worse when she couldn’t conceive after their first year of marriage and he began to think that his folks were right after all. He succumbed to pressure from them to get a second wife without her knowledge. He allowed them to control his feelings towards her and it generated to hatred towards her, he couldn’t even stand her presence let alone share a bed with her. His late daughter was conceived on a night he was drunk and wanting a place away from his nagging second wife.
Now Princess is dead and he didn’t even attend the funeral just because he couldn’t bear to look at his wife’s face and face her family members who knew of his ill treatment towards her. He can’t believe he is getting worried about meeting her but he definitely has to face her but first, he has to get through to the lawyer his PA recommended for him.

Chief Obi didn’t get to the peak of his career by mere intuitions, it had to do with the grace of God , great discipline, and integrity. With establishing different companies to suit the different sectors in the country. At age 72, He was already a billionaire and his wife who has her own flourishing textile industry is the best gift God has ever given him in his life. They both have three kids who are doing exceptionally well. His last and only daughter Nkechi, whom he calls his baby, is the owner of a well-known law firm in Lagos. He could still remember when she told him she wanted to have her own law firm, how he felt she was too young and was wondering if she will be able to do it, but she has over time proven that she is really the true daughter of her industrious parents.

Ugo his first son currently oversees his oil and gas company and had actually taken the company to the next level. Married with two kids and based in Abuja, he still finds time to visit his parents likewise making sure his father assets are well-taken care.
His second son Emeka has always been of concern to him because at age 38, He is yet to get married. That has been of great concern to him and he sometimes wonders if he was gay. Whenever he Is quizzed about getting married, he always replies that he will get married when the time is right but for now, he hasn’t seen the one. Emeka has always being the most intelligent among his kids and though he like to portray being stubborn but he actually is a man with a large heart which he got from his mother.
“Hello, my chief, how you doing”? Asked Chief Obi’s wife whom he calls his Lolo. She walked towards him and sat by his side in their massive bedroom.
“You seem to be far away in your thoughts, is everything alright?
“Well can’t really say but it depends on how you see it when you hear what I have to tell you.

That got Lolo worried because she really hates seeing her husband deep in thoughts and always want him to be happy. She always gives God thanks for marrying him even though they do have their differences occasionally.
“Well, Dele one of my company drivers assigned to the liquor company is dead; He was hit by a hit and run trailer driver. Another sad fact is that he hit a lady and her daughter while trying to dodge the trailer. The Lady sustained some injuries and she is fine now but the daughter died on the spot. No one in the office cared to let me know, as it was handled by the legal team but I still feel there is more to be done”.
“Hmm that’s a serious tragedy, really feel for the parents of the little girl, but what exactly did the company do to compensate the family of the deceased and why didn’t they care to inform Nkechi even though they felt you don’t need to know due to your absence”? asked Lolo.
“Well Nkechi wasn’t in the country as well, Emeka was informed late and he told them to pay the family a condolence visit, which they did. As for the compensation, the young mother didn’t want any financial compensation, but the legal team and some staff were present at the funeral”.
“So what exactly is troubling you? What more do you feel you need to do”?

*********

Mikayla’s mom came visiting from the village as seeing her daughter depressed during her grand daughter’s funeral makes her want to cry but she needs to be strong for her. Her daughter has passed through so much for someone her age. She regretted not heeding to her late husband’s advice of not consenting to her marriage to her husband.

Now her daughter is the shadow of herself, her daughter had never enjoyed her marriage due to the kind of family she married into. Now she has made up her mind to leave the marriage and this time around she has to give the support she never provided before as she had always been against her daughter’s decision to leave her marital home due to what people will say but she has had enough. If her daughter still insists on leaving the marriage, then she will be there for her through it all. Her only child cannot be killed by another family, over her dead body; reasoned Mikayla’s mom as she knocks on her daughter’s matrimonial home.

The knock on the door jolt Mikayla from her sleep, she thought of ignoring the visitor as she wasn’t expecting anyone but the knock became more aggressive and had to get to the door to know who it was. Opening the door, she saw her mom and that got her happy because she knows her mom will be staying for awhile with her to keep her company. Her mom hardly visits her due to the nature of her job as a senior Nurse with the government hospital in her village in Delta State. Now that she is retired, she just hopes she can be visiting frequently in order not for her not to go insane.

After the greeting and making sure her mom was settled and resting, she went to the kitchen to prepare dinner for her mom alone because she had stopped cooking for her husband since he decides to come to the house whenever he so wishes.
Her mom joined her in the kitchen, ‘How have you being faring Kay? you look lean and withdrawn’. Her mum walked up to her and turned her to face her, ‘Whatever decision you have taken, I will support you’, that got a shock from Mikayla, as her mum had always frowned at the idea of her leaving her marriage and her husband had always used it against her, knowing her mum will never allow her leave the marriage but now that her mum her given her approval, she just can’t wait any longer.

‘Thanks, mom, am really so happy you are here and ready to work the road with me’. Fresh tears clouded her eyes and her mom pulled her into a warm embrace letting her know she will be there for her.

I and Mercy met Anna and Christy at the reception and we decided to take a tour of the hotel’s beautiful surroundings while waiting for Joy. Going into the restaurant, I knew I will definitely have some delicious and mouth watering dishes. I was already in love with the hotel and looking forward to a fun filled weekend. Joy finally came and we made our reservations for the weekend and requested for 5 single rooms on the same floor and close to each other.

We were shown to our rooms and after having a quick shower, I decided to relax with the novel I brought, my intercom buzz and it was Mercy telling me of the Friday chilling and is at the hotel’s bar. Told her will be there in 20mins. Initially, I thought it was just gonna be a normal hotel bar setting but to my surprise, it was more or less like a lounge and the setting and ambiance was so cool. Anna saw me first so she signaled to me and they all did their oohs and ahhs, complimenting my outfit which I felt was just a simple one, but then I knew my curves gave it more justice. I actually got some stares from the other guests but I wasn’t really in the mood to feel special, rather just to catch up old times.

There was enough laughter, tears and of course a big hug and I was so happy to hear Anna was engaged, funny how I never knew her relationship with Samuel had gotten to that stage. I had to ask for her forgiveness for not having been there, and she quickly told me she understood. Joy has always been the blunt one among us and she was the one brave enough to ask me the big question of why I turned into a recluse. I was shocked because I actually don’t have an answer to that except maybe there was really no other way since am single and she said or maybe you felt like you failed at something. That got me because that was actually my greatest fear that I failed in my relationship and in trying to defend myself, I didn’t know when the tears rolled down my cheeks and before I could even get my acts together, they all had their hands around me and I saw myself crying for more than 20mins. They kept assuring me they understand, trying to let me know am still the beautiful lady in and out that they have always known. Of course, I will say I am beautiful, have always had guys around me seeking for a relationship but I always turn them down. With my height, curves and smile always on my face even when am sad deep inside, I do get compliments where ever I go but that had never taken the pain I have had in my heart for long. I really felt so good, light and relieved as it seems a heavy weight has been lifted off my shoulder and the next couple of minutes saw us laughing, cracking jokes and of course hitting the dance floor. We were just 5 crazy girls enjoying ourselves and being happy for our achievements in life and grateful that we have been able to come together like this after such a long time. We retired for the night at 2am and I immediately slept off as soon as got my ass on the bed cos I was so tired.

*******
Woke up due to the ringing from the intercom, it was obviously Mercy and wanted to know if I was up as we were booked for a workout at the gym followed by a pampering session at the spa. That really got me fully awake and I quickly had my bath and got into a workout outfit.

It was refreshing seeing my girls that mid-day, we had smiles on our faces, obviously recollecting the past night in our subconscious. We got into the business of lifting weights and pumping irons, we worked out the stress out of our system and engaged in the dancing exercise session. Gosh, it was so awesome, couldn’t believe we spent 3hours In the gym but it was really worth it at the end. Off we later went to the spa, the ambiance of the spa was welcoming and the hotel sure spent a lot investing in it. We were treated to a full body massage, sauna and of course manicure and pedicure.

I thought that would be the last activity for the day, but I was wrong as Mercy had other plans up her sleeves, told us to dressed casually as we will be meeting other mutual friends of ours at silverbird galleria for a late night movie. I didn’t know if I should decline at first because I really don’t fancy driving at night and also is been awhile I stayed later than 8pm outside for any reason at all and that really got me sceptical but Anna quickly assured me that we will be using the hotel cab service which sounded fine to me, and with that information, we all went to our various rooms to get ready for the movie date.

The movie date went well, met people I haven’t seen for awhile as I haven’t been in their company for a long time and at first I thought I will feel awkward as some of the guys were those that knew about my break up with my ex but I didn’t mind, I came to have fun and I sure will. And yes I had mad fun, the movie was interesting and the hanging out afterward at a nearby lounge was, even more, fun. Some of the guys were trying to get close to me but I just don’t want that sort of friendship, neither do I want to give anyone any unmistakable green light. This was just a weekend and I wanted it to remain so.

We got to the hotel at exactly 3am, I quickly dash into my room, had a hot bath, ordered a glass of freshly squeezed juice and while waiting for my juice, I decided to take the time to meditate for awhile as I wasn’t feeling sleepy. My juice came and it kinda got me into the mood to sleep and I sure slept for hours because I woke up 12pm. I got ready to check out when I got a knock on my door, and it was my girls, they were already set to check out also and from their facial expressions they sure had a swell weekend just like me. We sat down and Anna began by telling me never to think that they can’t always be with me and that we have being friends since university days and we will continue to be friends. Joy added she noticed I was been reserved with the guys and understood that I want to keep my distance, however, I should have an open mind from now on and just be me.

I really felt loved that they came out just to make me feel good when they could have hung out with their fiancé and boyfriends. It was indeed a fun-filled weekend.

The End!!!!!

Fun Weekend With The Girls……

a

Woke up to a glorious Friday morning, was so ready to face the day’s activities that I practically dashed out of my posh 2 bedroom apartment, got into my car and just felt so relaxed as I got into motion. It takes 45mins from my house to the office but usual island traffic makes it an hour which is till fair compared to when I was going to the office from the mainland. Can’t believe how far I have come from jumping buses while shuttling between mainland and island to having my own apartment on the island. I have to give thanks to God for the opportunity to build myself to the point of being a project supervisor in one of the leading telecommunication company in Nigeria which has given me a great platform to express myself and meet well know dignitaries in my sector.

*******
Work was going smoothly for the day and all my colleagues were already itching to close in order to have a swell weekend but that wasn’t in my line of thoughts because I know, as usual, I will be taking some of my unfinished work home and just sit in my sitting room watching already downloaded movies on my hard drive. That has gradually become my normal routine for the past 3years and it seems am not looking forward to having it changed. I was still busy with work when my phone beeped to alert me of a message from Mercy my dear friend asking what was my plan for the weekend which I casually replied, as usual. This got her replying that she ain’t surprised as I have gradually turned to the usual Kora. The affectionate way Mercy do pronounce my name always get me smiling as she is the only one that calls me Kora while every other calls me Zikora. She continued in her normal way of advising me not to shut myself out from social activities as with time it might make me get frustrated and pleading that I change my routine and that in fact she really wants me to hang out with her and our other friends. I was really surprised at her pleas and also grateful for our friendship because she is one person that hasn’t given up on me ever since I turned into a recluse. I quickly told her, I will get back to her.

*******
Three years ago, I was a very jovial and lively lady that knows how to balance her work and social life. Loved hanging out and meeting friends and was happy been single and wasn’t even ready to let any man sweep me off my feet. Then came Brown who persisted till I had to give him a chance, though I didn’t play the hard to get because he was introduced to me by a mutual friend who assured me of his sincerity and with careful analysis, decided to give him a chance. We dated for 2years and called it quits because I couldn’t cope with the nonchalant attitude of his, and the zeal to keep the candle burning wasn’t there anymore, I just felt used and disappointed especially when I later learned of his unfaithfulness. Deciding to move on, made me move from the mainland to the island, concentrated on my work, pushed myself to get to the top in my company and now I have to agree with Mercy that I can’t be a recluse anymore. I need to go out and enjoy the work of my hands, need to loosen up and have a positive outlook on life. With that, I quickly send a message to Mercy of my interest and requested for details.

That acceptance led to a 10mins call from her as she was so happy to hear that am game and also informed me that she will stop by my office and join me to my home to pick up some stuff I will need as we will be spending the weekend in a newly opened hotel in Ikoyi, alongside Anna, Christy, and Joy. It sounded promising and just couldn’t wait to have fun.

As promised, Mercy came to the office and meeting her at the reception almost got me crying because though we are in the same state, live on the island and our office not very far from each other, we haven’t seen each other for 8months. She had never given up on our friendship, and even when I don’t check up on her, she still does. She is always the one to chat me up, call me and the first to wish me a happy new month.

Am I looking forward to the weekend? Yes!!!!!!!!!!!
