Chief Obi didn’t get to the peak of his career by mere intuitions, it had to do with the grace of God , great discipline, and integrity. With establishing different companies to suit the different sectors in the country. They both have three kids who are doing exceptionally well. His last and only daughter Nkechi, whom he calls his baby, is the owner of a well-known law firm in Lagos. He could still remember when she told him she wanted to have her own law firm, how he felt she was too young and was wondering if she will be able to do it, but she has over time proven that she is really the true daughter of her industrious parents.
Ugo his first son currently oversees his oil and gas company and had actually taken the company to the next level. Married with two kids and based in Abuja, he still finds time to visit his parents likewise making sure his father assets are well-taken care.
His second son Emeka has always been of concern to him because at age 38, He is yet to get married. That has been of great concern to him and he sometimes wonders if he was gay. Whenever he Is quizzed about getting married, he always replies that he will get married when the time is right but for now, he hasn’t seen the one. Emeka has always being the most intelligent among his kids and though he like to portray being stubborn but he actually is a man with a large heart which he got from his mother.
“Hello, my chief, how you doing”? Asked Chief Obi’s wife whom he calls his Lolo. She walked towards him and sat by his side in their massive bedroom.
“You seem to be far away in your thoughts, is everything alright?
“Well can’t really say but it depends on how you see it when you hear what I have to tell you.
That got Lolo worried because she really hates seeing her husband deep in thoughts and always want him to be happy. She always gives God thanks for marrying him even though they do have their differences occasionally.
“Well, Dele one of my company drivers assigned to the liquor company is dead; He was hit by a hit and run trailer driver. Another sad fact is that he hit a lady and her daughter while trying to dodge the trailer. The Lady sustained some injuries and she is fine now but the daughter died on the spot. No one in the office cared to let me know, as it was handled by the legal team but I still feel there is more to be done”.
“Hmm that’s a serious tragedy, really feel for the parents of the little girl, but what exactly did the company do to compensate the family of the deceased and why didn’t they care to inform Nkechi even though they felt you don’t need to know due to your absence”? asked Lolo.
“Well Nkechi wasn’t in the country as well, Emeka was informed late and he told them to pay the family a condolence visit, which they did. As for the compensation, the young mother didn’t want any financial compensation, but the legal team and some staff were present at the funeral”.
“So what exactly is troubling you? What more do you feel you need to do”?
Mikayla’s mom came visiting from the village as seeing her daughter depressed during her grand daughter’s funeral makes her want to cry but she needs to be strong for her. Her daughter has passed through so much for someone her age. She regretted not heeding to her late husband’s advice of not consenting to her marriage to her husband.
Now her daughter is the shadow of herself, her daughter had never enjoyed her marriage due to the kind of family she married into. Now she has made up her mind to leave the marriage and this time around she has to give the support she never provided before as she had always been against her daughter’s decision to leave her marital home due to what people will say but she has had enough. If her daughter still insists on leaving the marriage, then she will be there for her through it all. Her only child cannot be killed by another family, over her dead body; reasoned Mikayla’s mom as she knocks on her daughter’s matrimonial home.
The knock on the door jolt Mikayla from her sleep, she thought of ignoring the visitor as she wasn’t expecting anyone but the knock became more aggressive and had to get to the door to know who it was. Opening the door, she saw her mom and that got her happy because she knows her mom will be staying for awhile with her to keep her company. Her mom hardly visits her due to the nature of her job as a senior Nurse with the government hospital in her village in Delta State. Now that she is retired, she just hopes she can be visiting frequently in order not for her not to go insane.
After the greeting and making sure her mom was settled and resting, she went to the kitchen to prepare dinner for her mom alone because she had stopped cooking for her husband since he decides to come to the house whenever he so wishes.
Her mom joined her in the kitchen, ‘How have you being faring Kay? you look lean and withdrawn’. Her mum walked up to her and turned her to face her, ‘Whatever decision you have taken, I will support you’, that got a shock from Mikayla, as her mum had always frowned at the idea of her leaving her marriage and her husband had always used it against her, knowing her mum will never allow her leave the marriage but now that her mum her given her approval, she just can’t wait any longer.
‘Thanks, mom, am really so happy you are here and ready to work the road with me’. Fresh tears clouded her eyes and her mom pulled her into a warm embrace letting her know she will be there for her.
