Nelly was so tired from the trip to Sharon’s place, that she couldn’t wait to jump into the bed and have a good sleep. She didn’t even have the strength to change her clothes to something comfy. She just laid down on the bed and slept off.

Sharon decided to check up on her after noticing she didn’t come out of her room.
‘Would you like to eat something, Sharon asked as she opened the door and noticed, Nelly fast asleep.
She could imagine how tired she was especially as she had to sit close to a passenger that loves talking.
Sharon smiled and closed the door, she couldn’t help herself in reminiscing the good old days in the university.
Nelly has always been like a sister to her, they both shared the good and bad times. She really felt bad leaving her behind after relocating to the states. Having her here to spend three weeks with her and her family is going to be a holiday she will never forget in a hurry.
She really needs for them to catch up and also to know about her love life and how she has been holding on after the death of her parents in a fatal car accident. She promised herself that nelly was going to enjoy the time she has to stay with her.

Rise and shine sleepy head, Sharon said as she made to open the curtains in the guest room, while her kids were already jumping on the bed trying to get Nelly to wake up.
“Oh my goodness!!! Sharon, these kids are all grown up!!!
“Can’t believe I saw them two years ago when they were just cute twins and now they are so big and gorgeous’.
“Now I have a big reason to be up, cos we sure gonna play real hard and catch up lost time”.

She made her way to the restroom to freshen up while Sharon left the room with the kids to get something ready for Nelly to eat.
Nelly joined Sharon as she made her lunch, wow didn’t know time has gone so far, guess I was extremely tired.
‘Ya can imagine and is to be expected because you will need some days to adjust to the time change.”
‘So sit down while I dish your favorite food.
“Did you say my favorite? Asked Nelly, as she was surprised Sharon still remembers her favorite meal.
“Of course? No one can take edikang ikong soup and pounded yam from you.
“I remember when you had to cry in the hostel because our pot of edikang ikong soup got stolen.
“Wow, you still remembered that? Nelly joined Sharon in laughing as they both reminisce that memory. And to think it was Aisha that stole it after claiming she doesn’t like food from the south.

“Those were good old days, so what about Ken, is he around?
“No, he’s not. His job takes him out of Houston most times for like 4-5months and he actually left last month. He was really sad he won’t be around to see you before you leave but promised to give you a call later in the day because he called earlier on and I told him you were still asleep”.

“And the kids? Can’t hear their voices anymore’. They went to the park with their nanny. replied Sharon. Now let’s talk about Nigeria, and how has life been treating you. I know you do keep me informed but hearing it from you while looking at you is what I need now.”
That got a laugh from Nelly because she knows where Sharon is coming from. They have been very close and can’t really hide stuff from each other.

“Well, my job is still the same old job you knew of, same salary and is really becoming boring for me. Have been able to move ahead following my folk’s death and you know my relatives made life really difficult which is due to the fact that my dad never prepared for an early demise or that he would have to die the same time with my mom and leave me alone in the world.

‘As you know, dad and mom were both government workers and I have been able to settle their gratuities and don’t intend touching it till I feel is necessary. So am still fighting on my own to make a name for myself. And as per relationship, it’s still the same old story. I get into a relationship and when I think all is going well, it just stops and I can’t explain so decided to just be selfish with myself and just enjoy life because am really exhausted. My plan from now is to live life to the fullest, travel when necessary and try to put all darkness behind me”.

Sharon could feel the pain, hurt and disappointment emanating from her friend while she talks about how life has been treating her. She wished she had been there during her trying times but distance has always been a major barrier. She prays this trip will help them bond more and also help Nelly to forget her pain.

“Daddddyyyyyyy, I thought you won’t be coming back today because Grandma said your flight was delayed. So what happened?
“Well, we thought it was gonna be delayed, James told his four-year-old daughter as he made to go into the living room with his daughter in his arms”.
“Tamara Rodriguez, how many times have I warned you not to answer the door? Asked James mom, as she tried to admonish her granddaughter while trying to hide the joy of seeing her son.
“But Nana, is my dad? replied Tamara.
“Ya honey, I know is your dad, but we have to be careful when opening doors for people”.
“Okay, Nana, it won’t happen again”.
“Alright sweetie, why don’t you get the gift you prepared for your dad?
“Oh, that is true daddy, I made a present for you, let me go and get it for you”.
“Really, asked James as he looked lovingly at his daughter who has always been a source of happiness for him since he took custody of her following her mom’s death”.

“Well son, how was work? James mother asked.
“It was refreshing and exciting, James replied as he recalled his meeting with Nelly and the conversation they had. The thought of it made him smile.
“Wow, it really must have been exciting, because you are smiling’.
“Do you mind sharing the excitement with me?
That got a laugh from James. “Not yet mom, but very soon.
“Now I have to rest and then get Tammy home, I know you must be stressed from babysitting’.
“Not at all, I love having Tammy here, always make me feel young again’.
